We went out for a smoke. The clubs door closed sealing the music in; the fresh air greeted me as I entered. I reached into my right jacket pocket, pulling out a shiny red box of smokes, I pulled the last one out and placed it between my lips. Ron reached his hand out for smoke, I went to offer but there were not any left. We decided to walk to a cigarette vendor just around a corner at the front of the building we were standing behind. It was late almost three, and mild fog had set in over the city. The street lights created lit auras wherever their beams could reach. The alley was well lit and a had reflective marble surface, which was uncommon to find in China however we were in the richest burrow of Chengdu a metropolis of 11 million. This is what I came to China for, to see new things experience new cultures and party like it's the night after finals.
We reached an intersection and hooked a right, we made it around the corner and headed down the last stretch of alley before the street. Ron was only few paces behind me, I went to ask him a question, when he hesitated in the answer I flipped around. Ron was hunched over looking at specks of blood, maybe ten or so ranging in size from a dime to a half dollar. It took only a second look to realize it wasn't just a few specks from bloody nose, but an entire trail of small spatter marks leading to the street. |
